The Universal Formula For Killer Email Marketing (Works In Any Industry)

I'm scrolling Twitter when my friend Mike tags me in a post.

(And by pure chance, the person who posted this was also named Mike.)

"Hey man, what's your take on this?"

I click over and see this tweet:

"I've never understood the weekly newsletter thing. You seriously have 52 things that you think are interesting or will be helpful to people? Very few can actually pull this off. What's the point of sending weekly vs when you actually have something good to write about?"

CRACKS KNUCKLES LOUDLY

Here's my take on this all-too-common mentality.

This guy is basically saying "Don't send an email unless you have something ground-shattering."

And honestly? I get why people think this way. It feels safer to wait for the "perfect" insight.

But here's what he's missing:

Email marketing is all about the long game. It's about building connections over time.

In fact, I'd argue that email and long-form video content are the two best ways to build relationships in the digital era.

I switched from writing my newsletter weekly to three times a week because I actually enjoy writing. And the more often I write, I notice two things happen:

  1. I start to unlock forgotten memories and random stories that crack me up.

  2. I get replies from people saying they like the emails (one reader actually asked me to send daily newsletters...)

Here's the secret: You gotta info-tain people.

Tell someone a story, teach them something, offer them a product or service can help them

That's the universal formula to killer email marketing.  

It applies to ecommerce, SaaS, home services, whatever.

If you can entertain people and then teach them something, they're gonna love you and love buying from you.

People want to connect with humans. 

And in the age of AI where anyone can generate sloppy content in minutes, sharing your stories is really what makes us human.
